The Anlo Traditional Council has expressed total outrage for the disrespect shown to the culture and tradition of the Anlo people regarding the burial rites of the late former President, Jerry John Rawlings.
The Traditional Council in a press statement signed by the Awadada of Anlo, Togbe Agbesi Awusu, drew the attention of the family and government to include the council in discussion concerning the date and burial rite of the late former President for a dignified send off.
However the exclusion of the council in the said decision for the burial of J.J Rawlings is an affront to the culture and tradition of the Anlos hence it must be remedied appropriately.
“It needs to be brought to the attention of the public that the traditional council had brought to the attention of the immediate family its concerns on how to proceed with the funeral arrangements and was to have met them for final input into the funeral arrangement”.
According to them “their anger stems from the fact that, President J.J. Rawlings was not only a former Head of State and President of the Republic of Ghana, he was also a properly installed Chief of Anlo land whose unfortunate demise must be dealt with in accordance with customs and tradition of the Anlo”.
Knowing President Akufo-Addo as royal, the Council called on him to ensure that the right procedures are adhered to.
“We take this opportunity to inform Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo who we know is a royal to ensure that the right procedures are adhered to”.
