The Ah-ha Moment!

Robert’s defining moment that made him realize he could lead, as he recalls, was when he attended a leadership program and made a discovery of what leadership actually is about.

“I realized that leadership is not about the position, it is not about being able to command the people around you but I realized leadership is about care, about attention, being helpful and being the support colleagues, staff and friends can depend on in bad times.”

To him, the key act that makes an African leader stand out in the crowd of mediocrity where fame, power and popularity is highly desired is the act of care, “being the director of Amnesty International Ghana, I’m thinking about that girl who has been raped and needs support and that is why I do my work, the key thing is to care about the people and have them at the center of whatever a leader does.” He explained.
